Using faux plants can combat that, allowing you to bring the outdoors inside without all the necessary upkeep.

Beyond being a stunning feature in a room, faux greenery can also have a utility purpose. Jo and Ryan, who go by @anotherfknflat on Instagram, shared a video on the platform that shows them using the FEJKA artificial foliage from IKEA to hide an unused door in their living room. "We came to the idea of blending half a wall of foliage and cutting it to mimic the new painted crack on that wall, whilst also hiding the door," the pair writes in the caption. "Usually we aren't huge fake plant fans, but as a full wall piece it's really worked nicely in person!"

Paired with live plants around the space, the finished project makes their living room look like a secret garden with vining plants climbing up the wall. The unused door is instantly turned into a feature to create a cozy interior for the couple. What's best is the DIY project is easy and inexpensive to replicate in any home.

Since it doesn't need maintenance after installation, using the FEJKA wall-mounted foliage from IKEA is a simple way to add a pop of color and bring the outdoors inside. The panels connect to each other, so you can create a wall feature of any size or shape. They also come in two colors: one of all-green foliage and one with a pop of purple among the green leaves. Other materials you'll need for this project include wall screws to hang the panel up and scissors if you want to cut the square edges for a more natural feeling.

The process is simple and the installation is easy. In the Instagram video, Jo and Ryan recommend first measuring the space you want to put the panels. This will help you determine how many squares you'll need. Each faux foliage panel is ten and a quarter inches on each side.

Then, start by connecting them together with the included latches. Once the whole thing is assembled, use the screws to fasten the panel to the wall. If you want to cut it to a shape, next, use the scissors to trim the excess until you have your desired shape.

While Jo and Ryan used these faux greenery panels to hide an unused door, the IKEA FEJKA pieces don't have to be used in a utilitarian way. Instead, they can be purely decorative and add a pop of color or texture to a room. If you don't want to cover an entire wall, you can frame the squares and hang them like art on the wall. Or, you can use them to fill a wall and decorate further with silk flowers, framed art, or neon signs to create an eye-catching accent.

You can also use these faux-greenery walls to dress up built-in bookcases, shelves, or a bar cabinet. Apply the panels to the back of the shelves to create an unexpected detail and unique texture. You can even build a faux trellis by purchasing a wood trellis, such as this one from Ace Hardware, cutting the panels into smaller sections, and attaching them to the wood to create a feature that can sit inside or out on a patio.
